Slot ‘will be sacked’ by Liverpool as ‘leading candidate’ for the Anfield job emerges…

Arne Slot is likely to be dismissed by Liverpool as a ‘top candidate’ for the Anfield position comes to light.

Reports indicate that potential revenue declines at Liverpool will significantly influence the Reds’ choice regarding Slot’s future at the end of the season.

Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat against Brighton on Saturday, marking their tenth loss in the Premier League this season, yet they remain in fifth place in the standings.

After a dominant Premier League victory last season, Liverpool has had a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, despite investing over £400 million in new players.

Their lackluster performance has left Slot’s future uncertain, although their ongoing participation in the Champions League and FA Cup provides him with hope for a positive conclusion to the season.

Currently, Liverpool is five points behind the fourth position, but a fifth-place finish may still secure Champions League qualification, with only a one-point lead over Chelsea in sixth.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has stated that Slot “will be sacked” if the club fails to secure Champions League qualification, as the anticipated revenue drop could cost him his position.

Wyness commented to Football Insider: “It certainly is looking difficult now to get Champions League, although it’s by no means certain that they may do, they may not, but it’s certainly risky.

“And that would have a big impact on revenues. And I think his head would definitely go for that reason. He will be sacked.

“But even if he doesn’t go now, it seems that the mood music is going against him.”

Football Insider reports that former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is a ‘leading candidate’ should Slot be dismissed, with journalist Pete O’Rourke describing him as the “obvious fit.”

O’Rourke stated to Football Insider: “If Liverpool do end up dispensing of the services of Arne Slot, I think there’ll be a number of names that the club are looking at.

“Obviously, Xabi Alonso is a standout candidate due to his links with Liverpool, and he’s out of work as well.

“It appears that if Slot were to leave, Alonso would be the clear choice.”

Former Premier League forward Gabby Agbonlahor recently stated that Slot lacks the necessary qualities to manage Liverpool in the long run.

He mentioned on talkSPORT: “I apologize, but he simply doesn’t possess the essence. He lacks the spirit and familial connection that is essential for Liverpool.

“I recognize that following Jurgen Klopp is a significant challenge, and I completely get that, but he has not truly understood the spirit of Liverpool Football Club.
