Positive news” – Liverpool handed promising injury update before meeting Nottingham Forest

Written by admin

Liverpool may have one injured player return in time for their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest next Saturday.

The Reds have struggled through a difficult autumn period, with several key players unavailable. Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones, and Jeremie Frimpong have all been sidelined, while Giovanni Leoni suffered a serious ACL injury. Alisson Becker has also been out since late September after picking up a hamstring issue in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray, but the goalkeeper now looks close to making his comeback.

When will Alisson return?
In a Liverpool Confidential Q&A for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele responded to various fan questions, including updates on the club’s injured players. He reported that Alisson, now 33, is hopeful of returning to the starting lineup against Nottingham Forest in nine days. His omission from Brazil’s squad has allowed him extra time to recover at the AXA Training Centre before the Premier League resumes.

Why Alisson’s return matters
Giorgi Mamardashvili has performed admirably as Alisson’s replacement in recent weeks, much like Caoimhin Kelleher did in previous seasons. Despite conceding three goals against both Brentford and Manchester City, the Georgian kept clean sheets versus Aston Villa and Real Madrid, saved an Erling Haaland penalty, and made several outstanding reflex stops.

Even so, any team would welcome back a goalkeeper of Alisson’s calibre. His return should bring added stability to Liverpool’s defence at a time when improved results are urgently needed. After suffering three hamstring issues since early 2024, Liverpool will be hoping he stays fit for the remainder of the season.

Mamardashvili has done an excellent job since October, but the Reds will undoubtedly be stronger with Alisson’s experience and calm presence once he is back between the posts.
