Xabi Alonso’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, has responded to reports suggesting his client could move to Liverpool F.C..

During his playing career, Alonso represented Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, making 236 appearances and scoring six goals. The Spaniard was also part of the legendary team that won the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final in Istanbul, where he scored the equaliser against AC Milan to level the match at 3-3.

After retiring from football, Alonso moved into management and impressed during his first job with Real Sociedad B. His success there earned him a move to Bayer Leverkusen, where he later guided the club to a Bundesliga title. His achievements quickly placed him on the radar of major clubs, with links to Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

Alonso eventually joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2025 but was dismissed in January after a difficult spell of results.

With Liverpool reportedly struggling under manager Arne Slot, Alonso has recently been linked with a potential return to Anfield. Spanish outlet Okdiario even claimed he had agreed to replace Slot at the end of the 2025/26 season if Liverpool fail to win the Champions League.

However, Ibanez dismissed those reports, telling WinWin:

“All the talk about an agreement with Liverpool is just media speculation.”

Reports also suggest Alonso is currently reviewing all possible opportunities before deciding his next step.

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano clarified that no negotiations are currently underway between Alonso and Liverpool. He explained that the club plans to conduct an internal review at the end of the season involving players, staff, and management.

Romano added that while there is mutual respect between Alonso and Liverpool due to his history with the club, no agreement or decision has been made so far
