Beşiktaş close in on Mohamed Salah as Egyptian star agrees deal in principle
Beşiktaş are moving closer to one of the most eye-catching free transfers of the summer, with Mohamed Salah reportedly agreeing in principle to continue his career in Turkey.
The Egyptian forward became available on a free transfer following the end of his highly successful spell at Liverpool. While clubs from Saudi Arabia and the United States have shown interest, Salah’s preference to remain in European football has strengthened Beşiktaş’s position.
According to journalist Nicolò Schira, Salah is nearing a move to the Turkish giants on a contract running until 2027, with an option to extend until 2028. The proposed deal is worth €12 million per year.
Beşiktaş head coach Vincenzo Italiano has personally been involved in convincing the former Liverpool winger that the club’s project is the right next step. Sources in Istanbul say the transfer could be completed within days, though final paperwork and remaining financial details still need to be resolved.
Earlier talks had stalled over the demands of Salah’s representatives, but the latest developments suggest those obstacles are closer to being cleared.
Daily Sabah reports that Salah remains Beşiktaş’s marquee target in their ambitious rebuild under Italiano, with the club maintaining direct contact while working to settle the outstanding financial issues.
From a footballing perspective, this would be a remarkable signing. Although Salah is entering the later stages of his career, his goalscoring record, experience and global profile would immediately raise Beşiktaş’s level both on and off the pitch.
The move makes sense for both parties: Salah would stay in European competition and become the central figure in an ambitious project, while Beşiktaş would land a genuine superstar without paying a transfer fee. The salary package is substantial and expectations would be enormous, but few free-agent opportunities offer this combination of proven quality and worldwide commercial appeal.
