Nick Woltemade can leave Newcastle on loan as Liverpool and Manchester United join the list of interested clubs
Newcastle United have informed Nick Woltemade that he is free to leave on loan this summer, with interest in the Germany international continuing to grow.
Aston Villa, Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have previously been linked. Liverpool and Manchester United are now also monitoring the situation, according to sources close to the agents’ industry.
Woltemade, 24, has found minutes hard to come by at St James’ Park and is not viewed as a first-choice target by the bigger clubs. No formal talks have taken place. However, he remains highly regarded across Europe for his ability to play as a centre-forward or number 10, and is seen as a potential depth option who could revive his career elsewhere.
Newcastle’s preference is a permanent sale in the region of €65 million. In practice, a loan with an option to buy is considered the more realistic route at this stage.
The club is already navigating a turbulent summer. Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have left, Bruno Guimarães is expected to follow, and Eddie Howe has departed as manager. While Woltemade is not among the side’s most high-profile assets, another exit would add to the sense of upheaval at a time when stability is in short supply.
