Curtis Jones’ Liverpool Exit Looks Closer as Inter Milan Circle
Fabrizio Romano has delivered a significant update on Curtis Jones’ future after the midfielder was left out of both of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies against Como.
Jones’ complete absence from the matchday squads has intensified speculation that a departure from Anfield could be imminent before the summer transfer window closes.
Romano posted on X:
“Curtis Jones, out of both friendly games for Liverpool today. Inter remain keen on the English midfielder with new bid anticipated, deal depends on club to club talks as player wants the move.”
The 25-year-old had previously missed the friendly against Monaco, with new head coach Andoni Iraola citing a hip issue and a desire to avoid any unnecessary risk. His omission from both games against Como, however, points to something more than simple precaution. Negotiations appear to be advancing behind the scenes.
Inter Milan’s Pursuit Gains Momentum
Inter have identified Jones as a primary target to strengthen their midfield. After earlier bids (including one around €25m) were rejected, the Italian champions are expected to return with an improved offer in the region of £30m (€35m). Liverpool had previously held a firmer valuation closer to €40m, though reports suggest their stance has softened slightly as the window enters its final stages.
The deal remains heavily dependent on movement within Inter’s own squad, particularly the anticipated departure of Davide Frattesi, which would free up both space and funds. Once that piece falls into place, Inter are expected to push hard to get a deal over the line.
Jones, who is open to a move to Serie A, is understood to want the switch. His technical quality, versatility, and ability to operate in multiple midfield roles make him an appealing fit for the tactical demands of Italian football.
Growing Distance at Anfield
Despite coming through Liverpool’s academy, Jones’ relationship with sections of the Anfield support has become strained. Incidents such as not celebrating after scoring against Brentford on the final home game of last season, and a heated on-pitch clash with Dominik Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas after the pre-season win over Wrexham, have not helped his standing with some fans.
The arrival of Florian Wirtz last summer further pushed Jones down the pecking order. With regular starting opportunities harder to come by, the England international is seeking a new challenge where he can play a more central role.
With the player keen on a move and Inter preparing another bid, the focus now shifts to whether the two clubs can bridge the remaining financial gap before the window shuts.
