Fuming Liverpool fans have lambasted one player following Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Andoni Iraola drew his first Premier League match at Anfield, with Dan Ndoye scoring the opening goal of the game for the visitors in the 23rd minute.
The much-maligned Alexander Isak equalised on the hour-mark, converting from close range after excellent work from Cody Gakpo. Morgan Gibbs-White then scored from the penalty spot after Alisson clattered ex-Liverpool full-back Neco Williams, but summer signing Víctor Munoz equalised for the relieved hosts late on.
The result means Liverpool have only picked up two points from their opening two Premier League fixtures, leaving them mid-table.
The Merseyside outfit, who sacked manager Arne Slot at the end of last season, began the 2026-27 campaign with a last-gasp draw away at Newcastle United last Sunday.
Isak and Florian Wirtz were heavily criticised for their anonymous displays in Liverpool’s opener. Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville said on his podcast: “The big thing for Liverpool is they’ve got this quarter-of-a-billion-pound front two, Isak and Wirtz and bloody hell, we’ve been kind to them.
“They’re going to have to start playing sooner or later or else, to be fair, they’re going to get quite a lot of criticism. For a start, they’re too nice, and if you’re going to be nice, you’d better be incredible at football.
“I don’t see the tenacity in Wirtz in particular. I just see a nice player moving around the pitch, not really ever looking like he’s busting a gut to do anything.”
Liverpool Fans Tear Into Frimpong Again
However, it was another player who frustrated Liverpool fans at St James’ Park. Jeremie Frimpong was hammered by supporters last weekend, and now the same thing has happened again following another unconvincing display at Anfield.
“Frimpong is the worst footballer to ever wear the shirt,” one supporter wrote on X (Twitter), while another said:
“Frimpong is easily one of our worst signings ever.”
A third fan commented: “Words can’t even describe how much anger Frimpong enrages in me. I’ve never been more annoyed at a Liverpool player like this.”
A fourth wrote: “We can’t play this season with Frimpong at right-back, it’s like playing with 10 men.”
A fifth Liverpool fan said: “Still in disbelief that Frimpong was initially identified as the Trent [Alexander-Arnold] replacement, and that a year later apparently no one at the club sees an issue with that.”
While another commented: “Sell Frimpong right now!”
It didn’t help matters that Frimpong was the player in an offside position when Wirtz thought he’d equalised for Liverpool in the first half.
But it was the Dutchman’s failure to convince defensively or make a significant contribution going forwards that has left disgruntled Liverpool fans pleading for a new right-back before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Frimpong was one of three Liverpool players subbed off by Iraola with 20 minutes left to play, shortly after Forest had taken a 2-1 lead.
Liverpool fans were initially optimistic when Frimpong, 25, was signed as Alexander-Arnold’s replacement in a £29 million deal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
But just over one year later and many of the same supporters appear to have lost faith in the Netherlands international.
