Liverpool have already opened talks with the representatives of Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara about a potential move in the summer of 2027, positioning the Senegal international as a leading candidate to succeed Alexis Mac Allister.
According to talkSPORT, the Reds contacted Camara’s advisers to express interest in a deal next year. The approach follows reports that Camara was Liverpool’s preferred option had Mac Allister departed this summer. David Ornstein of The Athletic noted that information circulating around deadline day indicated Camara would have been the club’s top choice if the Argentine left Anfield.
Mac Allister, under contract until 2028, remains a key part of the midfield under Andoni Iraola. Contract talks have not yet begun, however, leaving room for future uncertainty. Liverpool opted against adding a midfielder in the recently closed window, prioritising other areas and giving academy talent more opportunities.
Chelsea Collapse Opens the Door
Camara, 22, was at the centre of late transfer-window drama. Chelsea agreed a fee in the region of £47 million with Monaco after selling Enzo Fernández to Manchester City for a joint-British-record £125 million. The Senegal international completed a medical and agreed personal terms on a long-term contract, only for Monaco to withdraw from the deal at the last minute. The collapse was linked to the parallel negotiations involving Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton.
With Chelsea now exploring alternatives (including interest in Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios in some reports), Liverpool’s early contact places them in a stronger position for 2027. Sources indicated Liverpool told both Camara’s camp and Monaco to “wait,” making clear they were not pursuing an immediate deal while Mac Allister stayed but remained interested for the following summer.
Why Camara Fits
The energetic, box-to-box midfielder has impressed in Ligue 1 and for Senegal with his defensive intensity, ball-winning ability, and progressive carrying. At 22 he offers a younger, high-upside profile that could provide long-term succession planning alongside the existing midfield group. Liverpool have monitored him for some time; previous reports linked the club with him as a potential upgrade or depth option earlier in 2026.
Any move remains provisional. It will depend on Mac Allister’s situation, squad needs under Iraola, Monaco’s valuation (previously in the £40-65 million range depending on the report), and competition from other Premier League clubs. For now the talks are preliminary planning rather than advanced negotiations.
