Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on Florian Wirtz’s situation at Liverpool, according to reports, as questions persist about the Germany international’s impact since his record-breaking move to Anfield.
Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth up to £116 million. He was widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents after starring in Leverkusen’s title-winning side, and Liverpool beat off strong interest from Bayern and Manchester City to secure his signature.
The transition to the Premier League has proved challenging. Across his early appearances this season, the 23-year-old has yet to score and has contributed just one assist. His latest outing, a quiet performance in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Fulham, saw him register three shots, complete no dribbles and finish with an 83% pass completion rate.
TEAMtalk reports that some figures at Liverpool have concerns over whether Wirtz can reach the levels expected of a player who cost such a significant fee. Those concerns do not mean the club are actively looking to sell him. The expectation is that new manager Andoni Iraola will be given time to work with the midfielder and integrate him fully into the side.
Bayern, who were serious admirers of Wirtz before his move to Merseyside, have not lost interest. Sources indicate their long-standing admiration remains intact, and they continue to monitor developments closely. A return to the Bundesliga could offer the German a more familiar environment and a system potentially better suited to his strengths, though any move would still represent a major decision for both clubs.
Wirtz remains contracted to Liverpool until 2030. For now, the focus at Anfield is on helping him rediscover the form that made him one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
