Liverpool reopen contract talks with Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool have restarted negotiations over a new contract for Alexis Mac Allister, according to transfer source Indy Kaila.

The Argentina international’s current deal runs until June 2028. Earlier this season the club decided against offering an extension, a decision that left Mac Allister “very, very sad” and immediately drew interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City. That stance now appears to have shifted, with Liverpool looking to secure the 27-year-old World Cup winner’s long-term future at Anfield.

Speaking after the initial decision, Mac Allister made his disappointment clear while reaffirming his commitment to the club:

“As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad. The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I’m here.”

The comments came at a time when teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai had already signed new deals, making the omission feel particularly pointed. Mac Allister’s professionalism in the face of that setback has been matched by a strong run of form.

In recent weeks the midfielder has produced several decisive performances. He scored against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League and found the net against Tottenham in the League Cup, underlining his ability to influence games from central areas. His technical quality, work rate and tactical intelligence have once again highlighted how important he remains to Liverpool’s midfield balance.

With two years still left on his existing contract, a fresh deal would remove the uncertainty that has surrounded his future and close the door on outside interest. Liverpool now appear keen to ensure the midfielder stays at Anfield for the long term, a development that marks a clear change in direction from the club’s earlier position.

For Mac Allister, the latest reports arrive after he publicly committed himself to giving everything for the team. His recent displays have only strengthened the case for Liverpool to lock him down.
