The first half had been a story of frustration for the Reds. It was a classic centre-forward’s finish – simple, decisive and perfectly timed. The goal owed as much to the creative contributions of Gakpo and Wirtz as it did to Isak’s clinical edge. Gakpo’s ability to create the initial space and deliver a dangerous ball set the platform, while Wirtz’s intelligent first touch and vision unlocked the defence at the crucial moment.
The strike lifted the atmosphere inside the stadium and gave Liverpool a platform to build on. After a subdued first half, the goal provided both a scoreboard advantage and a clear lift in confidence as the Reds continued to press for a second.
