WHY LIVERPOOL WERE DENIED A PENALTY AFTER YEHOR YARMOLYUK HEADBUTTED JEREMY JACQUET

Written by admin

Liverpool fans were left furious after Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off for headbutting Jeremy Jacquet during the first half of the clash against Brentford. But despite the shocking incident happening inside the penalty area, the Reds were NOT awarded a penalty. 🤯

The incident occurred in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time as Liverpool prepared to take a corner. Yarmolyuk appeared to headbutt Jacquet off the ball, with the on-field officials initially missing the incident.

However, VAR intervened, sending referee John Brooks to the pitchside monitor. After reviewing the footage, Brooks changed his decision and showed the Brentford midfielder a straight red card for violent conduct. 🟥

BUT WHY WASN’T IT A PENALTY? 🤔

According to the explanation provided in the report, the ball was not yet back in play when the headbutt occurred. As a result, the referee could punish Yarmolyuk for violent conduct with a red card, but Liverpool were not awarded a penalty for the incident.

The match restarted with the corner kick after a lengthy delay.

😡 LIVERPOOL HAD ANOTHER REASON TO FEEL AGGRIEVED!

Yarmolyuk had also been involved in an earlier incident involving Florian Wirtz inside the penalty area, when Liverpool felt the Brentford midfielder had impeded the German without punishment.

To make matters worse, Liverpool had already seen a penalty decision overturned after Dango Ouattara was judged not to have fouled Alexis Mac Allister.

The red card gave Liverpool a numerical advantage for the second half, but the controversial decisions added more frustration to an already tense encounter.

Liverpool eventually found an equaliser through Victor Munoz shortly after the hour mark, giving the Reds hope of turning the game around. 🔴

Was VAR right to send Yarmolyuk off but deny Liverpool a penalty? 👀
