Alan Shearer lavished praise on Mohamed Salah, calling him “a great of the Premier League” after his decisive role in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday.
Despite a shaky start at Anfield with Ferdi Kadioglu putting the Seagulls ahead, Liverpool rallied back with Cody Gakpo netting an equalizer in the second half.
A mere three minutes later, Salah delivered the knockout blow, hammering the ball into the top left corner with an exquisite finish.
This marked Salah’s 164th Premier League goal, nudging him past Robbie Fowler to eighth on the all-time scorers list, and Shearer couldn’t hide his admiration for the Egyptian’s late-game heroics against Brighton.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, he exclaimed: “He’s a world class player” – even playfully ribbing about Salah’s goal tally in light of his own record-setting league goals.
Can you imagine scoring that many goals?”The Newcastle icon continued: “He’s a great player, he’s been a great of the Premier League.
No matter what happens at the end of the season with his contract, he’s an incredible player and a world class goalscorer.
Love watching him. Ian Wright, also on the punditry panel, echoed Shearer’s sentiments, admiring Salah’s knack for delivering crucial goals, especially when he seems quiet during the game.
He said: “You’re watching that game and you’re thinking, ‘Mo Salah’s not had too much to say in this game. You think when the game comes down to it on the line he’s probably going to show his face’ and that’s what he did.
