The Premier League leaders looked to make a rapid start in the 3pm kick-off but had left-back Andy Robertson down in a heap after a nasty challenge from Issa Diop.
The former West Ham defender missed the ball and put his studs right into Robertson’s knee with a reckless tackle that was high and late.
There was an offside in the build-up prior to the tackle, with a delayed flag. Diop was then shown a yellow card for the foul, but Liverpool fans were furious and feel as though he should have been sent off.
One fan said: “How’s diop not received a red card for this.”
A second wrote: “How is Issa Diop still on the pitch? Clear red!
A third commented: “Genuinely what is it with these incompetent officials. Disgusting tackle by Diop can’t believe it’s not a red.”
Another added: “That can easily be a red for Diop. Studs to the knee??? Why has that not been looked at.”
A final user opined: “Diop got away with it, if that foul was committed after 10-15 mins, would’ve been given as a red.”
To make matters worse, Andreas Pereira put Fulham 1-0 up early on not long after a poor challenge on Ryan Gravenberch, before Robertson was shown a straight red card for bringing down Harry Wilson after a poor touch allowed the former Liverpool academy player to dart in behind.
Robertson was the last defender and received his marching orders after a VAR check confirmed Wilson was onside. Ryan Gravenberch dropped back into defence after the red card as Slot looked for a solution to deal with Fulham’s numerical advantage.
Liverpool have not tasted defeat since a shock home loss to Nottingham Forest on 14 September but their incredible run of form is in serious danger of coming to an end at the hands of Marco Silva’s side.
Arne Slot’s men could end the weekend just a point clear at the top if they fall to a defeat and in-form Chelsea beat Brentford on Sunday.
