Gary Neville compares Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold to Steven Gerrard after what he saw vs Tottenham

Written by admin

Liverpool are in the driving seat in their must-win Premier League tie against Tottenham, with the Reds leading at the break.

Luis Diaz was able to get his revenge against Tottenham after last year’s injustice with a goal that stood this time around as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai also found the back of the net for Liverpool, with James Maddison on the scoresheet for Tottenham.

Key to Liverpool’s success so far today has been Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance at right-back, with the England international enjoying a field day down the flank with Tottenham unable to do much to stop the 26-year-old.

And one moment from the defender led to Gary Neville making an incredibly lofty claim.

Alexander-Arnold ranked amongst Premier League’s greatest passers
Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, the former Manchester United defender compared Alexander-Arnold to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Beckham and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard after the fullback’s assist for Diaz.

Alexander-Arnold whipped in an incredible cross that found the Colombian international with the inch-perfect ball to allow Diaz to open the scoring past Fraser Forster with an easy header from close range, with Neville in awe by the pass.

The pundit said when commentating on Alexander-Arnold’s assist: “The cross, the cross is something else. The precision. There are very, very few players in Premier League history that can land it on a six-pence like that.

“That level of accuracy, whip, he gets it absolutely perfect. There are very few players in Premier League history with that level of accuracy. De Bruyne, Beckham and Gerrard maybe.”

Alexander-Arnold will go down as one of the greatest in the Premier League
With Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold only intensifying week by week, this season could well be the last we see of the Liverpool defender in the Premier League for quite some time.

And after nearly eight years in Liverpool’s squad and being the starting right-back, Alexander-Arnold will go down as one of the greatest passers the Premier League has ever seen, with the fullback already the highest assist maker from a defender in league history.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold at 26-years-old has done more in football than most players ever will in their careers, and the defender will want to maintain his legacy wherever he ends up next summer once his contract with Liverpool comes to an end.
