Alexander Isak gives ‘green light’ for staggering transfer as agent ‘begins talks’ with shock club

Written by Uduak Obong

Alexander Isak has reportedly given the go-ahead for his agents to discuss a mindblowing move away from Newcastle United.

Isak, who scored 27 goals in all competitions for the Magpies as they won the Carabao Cup and secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, has been heavily courted by Liverpool – with talk of £120 million.

But talk cooled after it emerged that Newcastle had pulled out of the race to sign Hugo Ekitke, who is a target for the Reds.

However, on Friday afternoon the Sweden international’s future took a huge twist as it emerged that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are in for Isak and are willing to pay a substantial fee to secure his services.

Al Hilal, who knocked Manchester City out of the Club World Cup, are also owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund who also control Newcastle.

There is no suggestion there would be a conflict of interest that would scupper any deal, with Santi Arouna of Football Mercato reporting that Isak has expressed an interest in the move and given his representatives the green light to proceed with negotiations.

Alexander Isak’s contract situation

Those talks are now ongoing between Al Hilal and Isak’s camp while he is with Newcastle on pre-season in Austria.

Isak’s contract at St James’ Park runs until June 2028 and he is understood to earn £150,000 per week.

A report from The Sun stated that prior to stepping down from their roles, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi promised Isak a new contract but former sporting director Paul Mitchell pushed discussions back – much to the disappointment of Isak and his camp.

Isak signed for Newcastle from Real Sociedad for a club-record £63 million in 2022 and has scored 62 goals in 109 games, growing into one of the best strikers in world football.

He is expected to feature in the pre-season friendly with Celtic on Saturday, which acts as a precursor for a tour of Asia where they take on Arsenal, a K-League XI and Spurs.Featured Image Credit: Getty

The future of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has taken a complete shock turn out of nowhere.

Throughout the transfer window so far, Newcastle star Isak has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.

Arne Slot reportedly views the Sweden international as his dream move, with recent reports suggesting that the Reds would be willing to pay a world-record fee of over £120million for his signature.

Despite the massive financial offer, Newcastle appear to have stood their ground and remain determined that they will not sell their star player this summer.

However, things have now taken a shocking twist, as another club as come out of nowhere in the race for Isak, and they are also prepared to offer some serious money to complete a deal.

According to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di MarzioSaudi Pro League side Al Hilal are now eyeing up a move for Isak as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

Manager Simone Inzaghi is said to be a big fan of Isak, with Al Hilal prepared to offer a massive financial fee to convince both the club and the player to try and get a deal closed.

Although both Newcastle and Al Hilal are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, it is not believed that this would cause any potential problems with a transfer should it move forward.

But that doesn’t mean that the Magpies are necessarily willing to sell Isak to their sister club, as the sage with Liverpool made abundantly clear that they are not looking to lose him this summer.

What does this mean for Liverpool?

With it looking more likely that Isak will remain a Newcastle player next season, Liverpool will turn their attention elsewhere, as they prepare a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 23-year-old has been chased by several clubs around Europe this summer, including the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United, but he reportedly has decided to join Liverpool.

Liverpool are yet to make a formal bid, but Sky’s Florian Plettenberg recently suggested that Liverpool are willing to pay more than the £70million bid that Newcastle saw rejected earlier in the summer.Featured Image Credit: Getty

Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has reportedly made his feelings clear as the Magpies look to stave off interest from Liverpool for the Sweden international.

Isak, 25, has been the subject of interest from Liverpool in recent days as they look to bolster their already strong squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, which they will start as champions.

Florian WirtzJeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Freddie Woodman have arrived at Anfield this summer, but the Reds’ business is far from done.

On Tuesday (July 15), The Atheltic’s David Ornstein reported that Liverpool have made an approach to sign the 25-year-old although no official offer was tabled.

Since, the Reds have caused Newcastle another dilemma with their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, as the Eddie Howe’s side previously bid of £70m for the player – although this was rejected.

Throughout this summer and the recent interest from Liverpool, Newcastle have maintained that their star man Isak is not for sale, although it is widely reported that they value the Swede at around £120m.

As things stand, according to The Guardian, Isak is well paid on around £150,000 per week despite plans for an increase halting last summer due to concerns regarding Premier League financial regulations.

If he were to stay if would fair to assume that Isak’s loyalty would be rewarded with a potential bolstered contract. However, according to The Sun the battle for Ekitike could force negotiations to be further pushed back.

The report claims that the previous regime of Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi promised Isak a new deal before they parted ways with the club last summer.

An early decision made by former sporting director Paul Mitchell was to push negotiations with regards to a new deal back. This has supposedly left Isak and his representatives disappointed by the situation.

As a result, fears are reportedly growing that Isak could find it difficult to say no to any official approach from Liverpool although he is not thought to be pushing for a move at this time.

Major bombshell dropped on Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike saga as club pull out of move and target striker nobody has mentioned yet

Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike looked set to be part of a major transfer merry-go-round this summer but a new update changes everything.

A major update on the Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike saga involving Liverpool and Newcastle has been issued, changing the dynamics of both club’s summer dealings.

Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Premier League champions Liverpool were preparing an official approach to Newcastle over a club record bid for Isak.

The Swede, who scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season, had been identified as Liverpool’s top striker target and one who would require an offer in the region of £120 million.

With Isak’s situation uncertain, Newcastle had been exploring a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ekitike, who coincidentally is being courted by Liverpool.

But on Thursday morning, both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein reported that the Magpies’ interest in the Frenchman had faded and the deal was off.

Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein claimed that after a £69.3 million bid was knocked back, Newcastle have now turned their attentions towards Brentford forward Yoane Wissa and are expected to contact the Bees regarding a potential deal.

Wissa, a DR Congo international, scored 19 times in 35 games last season and was the subject of an unsuccessful bid from Nottingham Forest.

The latest development would indicate that Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak has gone cold, particularly given talk that they have spoken to Frankfurt about bringing in Ekitike.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star has developed into one of the hottest striking properties in the world, finding the net 22 times last term.

Bryan Mbeumo’s Man United situation could be key

Continuing the transfer merry-go-round, Wissa’s situation could hinge on what happens with strike partner Bryan Mbeumo.

United hope to make Mbeumo their second signing of the summer but have been unsuccessful in their approach thus far, with a £60 million bid reportedly rejected.

According to The Guardian, United’s efforts have “stalled” despite the former Lorient man telling the club he wishes to join.

United had been hopeful of doing a deal for £65 million but Brentford’s valuation is closer to £70 million, which has been met with “resistance” by Old Trafford chiefs as they do not want to “be held to ransom”.

Heading into an upcoming pre-season tour of the United States, United’s only signing has been the £62.5 million capture of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and they are struggling to shift the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia.Featured Image Credit: Getty

Liverpool stance on Alexander Isak clear after huge bid submitted

Liverpool look to have revealed their stance on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak having submitted a monster bid for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds have been active in the market already in the off-season, bringing in Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, bolstering their left-back options with the addition on Milos Kerkez, and they strengthened in attack with the high-profile capture of Florian Wirtz.

And despite easing to the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s first year at the Anfield helm, Liverpool are looking to bolster on the frontline. Isak was the rumoured number one target for the defending champions, the Swede having shone for Newcastle last season.

Only Liverpool star Mohamed Salah (29) scored more goals than the Magpies hitman (23) in England’s top tier last term.

As such, Newcastle, who over the weekend secured the services of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, slapped a hefty asking price on Isak in order to ward off interest in the former Real Sociedad forward.

Newcastle had looked into the possibility of signing Ekitike from Eintracht, but Eddie Howe’s side have since been leapfrogged by Liverpool in the race for the Frenchman.

Reds submit huge bid for Ekitike

That’s because according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have made their move for Ekitike.

“EXCL: Liverpool have submitted official bid to Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike!” Fab posted from his official X account.

However, Romano did go on to state that Liverpool’s initial bid for Ekitike had been rejected.

“Eintracht already informed Liverpool that they want more, proposal rejected but it was initial contact as talks continue,” he added

“Ekitike said 𝐲𝐞𝐬 Liverpool, no issues on personal terms. He wants #LFC.”

Ekitike was key for Eintracht last season, stepping out of Omar Marmoush’s shadow for the second half of the campaign to fire the German side to the Champions League.

The 23-year-old ended the season with 15 goals and eight assists to his name, and the Frenchman’s style of play would benefit the wingers in Liverpool’s 4-2-3-1 system.

Slot demands his wingers cut inside to go for goal from their respective flank, and Ekitike’s desire to drift across the frontline would open up space for the likes of Cody Gakpo and Salah.

Nunez set for Anfield exit as Newcastle switch striker target

Liverpool were always going to be active in the window in their pursuit of a striker this summer with Darwin Nunez set to be shown the Anfield exit.

The Uruguayan ended the campaign with more yellow cards (8) than goal involvements (7) with Slot prepared to sanction his departure.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have reportedly turned their attention to Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as they look to add another striker to the ranks.

Callum Wilson’s departure leaves the Magpies short on attacking options, with Wissa wanted by both Newcastle and Tottenham, the latter now managed by the striker’s former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.Featured Image Credit: Serena Taylor/Newcastle United via Getty Images
