Arne Slot set to start £10m player for Liverpool against Arsenal despite ‘strange’ form

Written by admin

Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday aiming to pick up another massive three points.

The Reds have been perfect ever since losing to Nottingham Forest in September and could lay down a real marker with a win at the Emirates.

Although it’s clearly Liverpool’s biggest test of the season so far – whether in the Premier League or Champions League – Arsenal are dealing with some injury problems ahead of the game.

Bukayo Saka hasn’t been in training for large parts of the week and it remains to be seen whether the England man will make it time to face the Reds.

Meanwhile, star centre-back William Saliba is definitely ruled out through suspension and captain Martin Odegaard is still recovering from an ankle issue.

Focusing on Liverpool, they have some problems of their own. But while fans wait to see which way Arne Slot goes with his line-up, one position at least already seems to have been decided upon.

Andy Robertson set to return against ArsenalSlot went surprisingly strong with Liverpool’s starting XI against RB Leipzig in midweek.

Since his arrival, the Liverpool head coach has shown that he is not necessarily interested in changing more than three players per game.

But given the calibre of opposition the Reds are facing in quick succession over the next six weeks, Slot may have to revise that strategy.

While we wait to see what the Dutchman decides at the Emirates, though, The Athletic report that at least one change will be made in North London.

They claim that having begun Wednesday’s game from the bench, Andy Robertson is ‘expected to be recalled’ to face Arsenal.

Kostas Tsimikas earned praise from Cody Gakpo after a good display in Leipzig, but Robertson is still the clear first choice at left-back.No further solid clues are given to what Liverpool’s line-up will be at this point.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane not impressed by RobertsonThis is obviously quite a natural change for Slot to make for Sunday.Although he is not big on rotation, the 46-year-old has swapped who starts at left-back with some frequency.

Part of that is likely due to Robertson’s slightly patchy injury record over the last year. But it could also be a little to do with form as well.Gary Neville and Roy Keane both blasted Robertson this week for his display against Chelsea on Sunday.

Neville called Robertson’s performance ‘really strange‘ while commentating on the game and has continued that narrative into the week, too. The £10m man still has plenty in the tank, though, so we expect him to bounce back against Arsenal.
