Benjamin Šeško signs as Arsenal secure Bukayo Saka’s replacement – the perfect end to January for the Gunners.

It may have been a quiet January for Arsenal so far, but Mikel Arteta shouldn’t worry – the transfer window is still open.

The Gunners have faced their share of challenges this season in their quest to secure their first Premier League title in over two decades. As with any club, Arsenal’s plans during January are under intense scrutiny, especially with key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus sidelined. This has led to criticism from fans and pundits regarding their lack of transfer activity. However, Arsenal now appear ready to spend in the final stretch of the window to strengthen their title push.

With that in mind, let’s explore what the ideal end to January could look like for Arsenal, imagining the decisions Mikel Arteta and transfer chief Jason Ayto might take.

Outgoings

First, departures. Oleksandr Zinchenko has attracted interest from AC Milan this month. Since falling down the pecking order after Jurrien Timber’s arrival, recouping a large portion of the £30 million spent on him in 2022 could be good business. Similarly, Jakub Kiwior has admirers, and with solid defensive depth, Arsenal could consider a sale if the right offer comes along.

Kieran Tierney looks set to return to Celtic as his contract expires in the summer, and an early departure could free up additional funds. Meanwhile, promising youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly offers another full-back option. Jorginho, linked with a move to Brazil, is likely to stay until the summer as Martin Zubimendi won’t be arriving before then.

On the loan front, Raheem Sterling’s move hasn’t worked out as hoped. But with potential replacements coming from overseas rather than within the Premier League, Sterling is expected to remain at the club for now.

Incomings

The priority for Arsenal has to be signing a striker. The standout target? Benjamin Šeško. A key summer target, Šeško would be an ideal fit to lead Arsenal’s attack and help close the gap on Liverpool in the title race.

However, Arsenal also need reinforcements to support their frontline, especially with Saka out injured. Bringing in a creative midfielder like Fabio Vieira, currently with FC Porto, could add depth and help unlock tight defences.

For a more direct replacement for Saka, Arsenal could turn to Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry. The versatile German, with proven Premier League experience, could provide cover on both flanks and remain useful even after Saka’s return. With limited game time at Bayern this season, this could be a smart loan move for all parties involved.

If Arsenal can pull off these moves, January could end on a high note and set the team up for a serious title challenge.
