Liverpool are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a shock swoop for England captain Harry Kane and a top-flight icon has now given the move his backing

Alan Shearer says it would be a no-brainer for Liverpool to pursue Harry Kane if the England captain does decide to head back to the Premier League in the summer – even if the striker would be highly likely to break his all-time Premier League goalscoring record.
Kane, 31, joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham last summer in a bid to win major trophies. After a rare barren campaign for Bayern last year, Kane looks set to accomplish that goal in the coming months as the German giants close in on the Bundesliga title.
After taking people by surprise with his decision to move overseas, there has been plenty of speculation over Kane making a return to England in the future.
Such speculation has intensified after it emerged Kane’s contract contains a release clause. And the rumour mill has gone into overdrive after it was claimed by El Nacional that Liverpool would be shock contenders to sign Kane if he were to come back to England.
If Kane were to return to these shores, he would have Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record – which stands at 260 – in his sights – but that hasn’t stopped Shearer from endorsing Liverpool’s reported interest.
The Match of the Day pundit told Betfair: “Liverpool will be looking for a centre-forward in the summer, I don’t doubt that and Harry Kane would be a great option for them because of the size of the club and he’ll score goals.
“Whether Harry decides to stay in Germany or he decides to come back to the Premier League, he’ll have options. I’ve always said that if he comes back to the Premier League then he’ll have a really, really good chance of breaking my record. I’m a huge admirer of him.”
While it remains to be seen if Kane will be on the move this summer, Liverpool will almost certainly seek a new No.9, with Darwin Nunez struggling in front of goal this term.
Arne Slot’s side are still on course to win the Premier League title, though, with the rest of their forward line firing. A move for Kane could split opinion – particularly given his long affiliation with Tottenham, who have been linked with a stunning swoop for their old talisman on more than one occasion themselves.
A release clause in Kane’s contract would potentially facilitate a move if the striker were to receive any offers this summer. Speaking last month, he refused to comment on reports of a release clause, saying: “What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause.”
Liverpool fans are ready for a busy summer of transfer activity and it seems that Milos Kerkez could be a realistic option to join the club.
Striking a deal with Bournemouth could now be a little easier though, if the latest reports are to be believed around the sale of one of our players.
As stated on Football Insider: ‘Bournemouth have identified Caoimhin Kelleher as one of their top targets to strengthen in goal this summer.’
We all know that the Irishman is being touted for an exit, given the imminent arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili and presence of Alisson Becker.
A move to the Cherries could be realistic and with the same report stating that Liverpool will demand £30-40million for the stopper, it could be part of a possible transfer for their left back.
Caoimhin Kelleher could facilitate a move for Milos Kerkez
As the Hunagrian confirmed his agent is currently working on a deal, it seems that the Reds are part of a stream of interested parties.
Richard Hughes has been touted as a key reason as to why we may be able to complete a deal with his former club too and this all starts to make sense.
If we then send Caoimhin Kelleher the other way, we could hugely reduce the price tag and get ourselves a new left back whilst we’re at it.
It probably also then paves the way for Kostas Tsimikas to exit and open up more funds, that could then be used to bolster another area in the squad.
As the summer edges nearer, we can file this under a believable story that would make sense for a variety of different reasons.
