The midfielder delivered a man of the match performance against Chelsea last week shortly after becoming a dad
Liverpool FC midfielder Curtis Jones has opened up on becoming a dad as he admitted he thought about leaving the club.
The Scouser has been in a relationship with model Saffie Khan for a number of years now.Saffie announced the birth of their baby girl on Tuesday October 15. In a joint Instagram post the couple said: “Giselle Delilah Jones, 13.10.24.
You are our entire world.” This was accompanied by a series of pictures of the couple and their new baby daughter.Curtis delivered a man of the match performance a few days later against Chelsea and in his post-match interview described being a dad as ‘the best thing ever”.
Now, in a newly released YouTube interview with Liverpool FC that was filmed last month, the Scouser admitted he used to be shy when it came to discussing parenthood as he was unsure if he would have to leave the reds.
Curtis became a trusted member of the squad under previous manager Jurgen Klopp, but due to his injuries and the players ahead of him he found his game time limited.
Therefore, there were periods where he thought he might have to leave his boyhood club on loan or permanently, which would disrupt any family plans.
When asked how he felt about becoming a dad, he said: “It’s a point in my life now where I’m ready. There were times when I was speaking about wanting to be a dad and stuff, but they were certain things that had to be in place first and a big part of that was football. I know I’ve still got to achieve a lot more and I can still do more.
I was at a point where I didn’t know if I was going to have to go out on loan or I would have to leave the club. There were plenty of times where I was reassured and I know where my future is. Now I’m at the point where I feel that I’m ready to take the next step and become a dad.
Curtis also addressed a video of him that went viral a few years ago. After scoring the winning penalty in a league cup game against Arsenal, he filmed a video for the club saying “what a win that was then” in a strong Scouse accent. The clip is often shared on social media by fans after a good performance by Curtis or Liverpool generally.
When asked what his thoughts were on it going viral, Curtis laughed and said: “(It was) before I was media trained. I’d done my interviews and then somebody from the club came with a phone and said, is there any way you can give the fans a little message? And I’m like, yeah, of course.
They said, if you just say ‘what a win that was then Reds, I’m happy I’ve seen you all there’ or whatever. So I’ve just said it how she told me to say it. The rest is history and it just ended up just becoming a meme.
