Jeremie Frimpong had a memorable outing for Liverpool in their 3-0 thrashing of Olympique Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday (January 21, 2026).
The Dutch wing-back was at his fiery best on the right wing for the Reds, inspiring the second goal of the game.
However, Frimpong got some fans talking after the game as a picture emerged of him showing a middle finger to someone during the clash.
Many automatically assumed that it was directed at ex-Man United forward Mason Greenwood, who has been part of some off-the-pitch controversies in the past.
Fans felt that Frimpong showcased his dismay towards Greenwood by flipping the bird at him at some point during the match.
However, there is no real proof that the Liverpool defender actually directed this at Greenwood – and it was mostly towards a teammate in good humor.
Frimpong actually follows Greenwood on Instagram and the two are known to be friends outside the pitch as well, hence it’s unlikely that this gesture was directed at the Marseille forward
