Emma Raducanu has addressed concerns about her health following her recent withdrawal from the Wuhan Open.

The 22-year-old British tennis player had to withdraw from her first-round match against Ann Li due to extreme heat conditions. Raducanu, who felt dizzy and needed medical attention on the court, has since provided encouraging news about her recovery as she readies herself for the Ningbo Open in China.
Raducanu’s Health Update
Raducanu informed her followers through Threads that she is feeling better after leaving the doctor’s care in Wuhan. The high temperatures in Wuhan, which reached 36 degrees Celsius with 60% humidity, were a factor in her withdrawal. Despite this setback, Raducanu is determined to compete in the Ningbo Open, a WTA 500 event.
Ningbo Open Expectations
Currently ranked 29th on the WTA Tour, Raducanu is scheduled to face Lin Zhu in the opening round on Tuesday. Should she win, her next opponent will be Mirra Andreeva. The tournament draw also features top-ranked players such as Ekaterina Alexandrova, who is now in the top 10, and Liudmila Samsonova, seeded eighth.
Other Notable Players
Sofia Kenin
Mccartney Kessler
Xinyu Wang
These players, along with Raducanu, are in the same half of the draw. In contrast, notable players like Elena Rybakina and Jasmine Paolini are positioned in the opposite half, enhancing the competition’s depth.
Heat Challenges in Professional Tennis
Recent tennis tournaments, including the Shanghai Masters, have seen players struggling with similarly high temperatures. Notably, Novak Djokovic experienced significant fatigue, while both Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud dealt with discomfort that led to their withdrawals. Djokovic remarked on the challenges posed by the extreme heat and humidity, which affect players’ performance.
Rising talent Terence Atmane reported severe symptoms from heat stress during a match, highlighting the physical toll such conditions take on athletes. Furthermore, Danish player Holger Rune questioned the absence of heat regulations, prompting the ATP to review player safety policies actively.
The ATP has pledged to prioritize player safety by evaluating potential measures, including an official heat policy. Both the ATP and WTA tours continue to be broadcast live, offering fans extensive coverage of tennis events throughout the year.
