Exclusive: Liverpool ‘very keen’ on signing Micky van de Ven

Liverpool are “very keen” on signing Tottenham star Micky van de Ven this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds want a new centre-back even if Virgil van Dijk signs a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season.

Van de Ven is hugely rated by Arne Slot, who knows a lot about the 23-year-old’s capabilities and character from their respective backgrounds in the Netherlands.

The former Wolfsburg star is viewed as an “elite Champions League level” player by Liverpool, sources say, and they feel he is capable of partnering Ibrahima Konate or Van Dijk.

Liverpool’s Van de Ven plan revealed after Van Dijk contract latest
Van de Ven is currently on the treatment table at Tottenham after a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury in the 4-3 loss against Chelsea in December.

He has made 12 appearances for Spurs across all competitions this term – and has turned out for the London club 41 times in total since his transfer from the Bundesliga in the summer of 2023.

The lightning-quick centre-back is under contract with Ange Postecoglou‘s side until June 2029 after signing a six-year deal upon his arrival 18 months ago.

Van de Ven has made 10 appearances for the Netherlands’ senior side since making his international debut in October 2023.

Liverpool could pursue Guehi as Van de Ven alternative
Liverpool are also keen on Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi, with the defender set to enter the final year of his Selhurst Park contract in June.

Football Insider revealed on 4 February that Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle are among the sides set to battle it out for Guehi’s signature.

A move for the Palace captain could form part of the Reds’ plan to replace Van Dijk long-term.
