Jeremie Frimpong has given his first interview as a Liverpool player, just days after putting pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Premier League champions.

The 24-year-old right-back, who is widely viewed as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement following his summer transfer to Real Madrid, has joined Arne Slot’s side for ยฃ29.5 million; the fee of his release clause at Bayer Leverkusen.
After being part of the Leverkusen side that won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2023/24, Frimpong continued to impress in recent months, making 53 appearances in all competitions as they finished behind Bayern Munich in the league.
Now, he will link up with some of his Netherlands teammates โ Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo โ as well as star players Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah.
In fact, Frimpong was asked about Salah’s presence at the Anfield club in his first interview with Liverpool’s official channel this week, and his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside him was there for all to see.
Playing with world-class players as a footballer is a great feeling,” he said, as seen in the above clip.
“Itโs a privilege, like, โIโm going to be next to Mo Salah!โ Not just him, the whole Liverpool squad. Just Liverpool in general, this is a privilege, a blessing that I can be part of it. But I canโt wait to link up with him โ hopefully we link up well. Iโm excited for these things, 100 percent.”
Here’s how fans on social media reacted to the comments on Salah.
One said: “Never give him media training please,” while a second wrote: “Love him already. Heโs fully aware of how lucky he is to be a Liverpool player.”
A third commented: “Frimpong is actually a fan, so refreshing to hear.”
A fourth wrote: “I’m begging he never gets media trained,” and a fifth added: “Love this guy already.”
Asked how it felt to come up against Liverpool in the Champions League last year, Frimpong gave a refreshingly honest answer.
“Ah, you know already,” he smiled. “I donโt need to say too much about the quality. They won the league. For me, playing against Liverpool when I was in Leverkusen, really difficult. Really, really difficult.
How can I say it… obviously Leverkusen were still good but you can see that Liverpool is next level.”
Frimpong also opened up on how he has changed over the last few years, having won league titles in two countries with Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen..
“I was immature back then, I was still a kid (at Celtic),” he said. “I was just thinking about leaving my friends. That was more important to me at that point because obviously I grew up with them, went to school with them. So for me it was like, โAh, Iโm not going to see them now.โ
“All my brother gave me was a wake-up call. It was needed.”
Finally, the full-back had a message for the fans.
“Liverpool fans, Iโm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together,” he said. “Iโm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I wonโt let you guys down. Iโll give you the energy that you guys want.”
