Federico Chiesa’s departure from Liverpool has looked ever more likely in recent weeks after an uneventful first season at Anfield.

The Italy international was seen as the star signing of the summer transfer window for Liverpool, but things have not worked out.
The winger has only played 12 times for the Reds in all competitions and is yet to start in the Premier League.
With Liverpool now linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, an exit has never looked more likely.
Now, interest in Chiesa has increased with the summer transfer window looming as the winger is linked with a move back to Italy.
Liverpool hit stumbling block in potential Chiesa sale amid interest from three Italian clubs
Before his move to Liverpool, Chiesa was a highly rated winger in Italy. The 27-year-old came through Fiorentina’s academy and eventually broke into the first team before moving to Juventus in 2020.
In Italy, he won two league titles as well as a Supercoppa Italiana with the Bianconeri..
Chiesa also shone at international level and earned a place in the UEFA Team of the Tournament for Euro 2020 as the Italians lifted the trophy.
With Mohamed Salah’s new Liverpool contract now confirmed, three Italian teams are now looking to acquire the winger to help rediscover his lost form, with his chances limited by the Egyptian agreeing a new deal.
According to Calciomercato (April 20), Inter Milan are leading the way for his signature after being long-term admirers of Chiesa. Napoli and Roma are also interested, but the latter club is dependent on whether they at least qualify for the Europa League.
However, a potential stumbling block for these teams is wages. Chiesa is currently on big money at Liverpool, the sort of money that would seemingly not be sustainable for any interested party. Therefore, the winger would have to take a pay cut if he wishes to move to one of the proposed sides.
Liverpool must cut their dead weight in the summer transfer window
Despite signing him in the summer, it has become clear that Arne Slot does not rate Chiesa. Therefore, it would be best for all parties if he moved on in the summer.
Liverpool must become ruthless and cut off any dead weight in preparation for the new season.
While it has been a successful first season for Slot, winning the Premier League title next season will likely be even harder.
Bringing someone in like Gittens while selling Chiesa would be excellent business and would no doubt improve the quality of the squad.
Unfortunately for Chiesa, his time in England hasn’t worked out, but hopefully, he will return to form next season wherever he ends up.
