Former Chelsea boss hints at expected return date for injured Liverpool player

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been included in Sweden’s squad for their November internationals

Liverpool supporters have received a promising indication of when one of their currently injured players might return. While Curtis Jones made his comeback during Tuesday’s victory over Real Madrid, other key players like Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong are still sidelined.

Isak has also missed recent matches due to injury, though manager Arne Slot suggested earlier this week that he hopes the striker could be fit for the match against Manchester City on Sunday. Even if Isak isn’t ready for the Etihad, today’s developments suggest his return may not be far off.

Isak named in Sweden squad
Sweden’s new manager, Graham Potter—who recently took over from Jon Dahl Tomasson—has included Isak in his first squad, with World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Slovenia scheduled for 15 and 18 November. With Sweden not playing until the following Saturday, this gives Isak around ten more days to prove his fitness ahead of the game in Geneva. Given Sweden’s precarious position in their qualifying group, his participation is highly important.

Isak was also called up in September despite not having played for several months, as he skipped pre-season with Newcastle to finalize his transfer to Liverpool.

Liverpool eager for Isak to gain match minutes
If Isak misses the clash against Man City, Slot will likely hope he can feature for Sweden to regain match sharpness before the busy pre-Christmas period. In the meantime, Hugo Ekitike has stepped in during Isak’s absence, performing so well that Jamie Carragher has insisted he must play whenever available. However, Ekitike will eventually need rest, and with Liverpool having invested £125m in Isak, getting him back on the pitch soon is crucial.

Fans are hoping he can feature at the Etihad on Sunday, but if not, his return will probably come during international duty over the next couple of weeks.
