Fresh Liverpool injury setback confirmed as striker faces months on sidelines

Jayden Danns is unlikely to feature again this year after the full extent of the Liverpool teenager’s recent injury blow was disclosed. Danns suffered a hamstring injury whilst taking a free-kick during the Reds’ under-21 side’s Premier League 2 clash at Ipswich Town last month.

Subsequent scans have revealed the severity of the problem, with the 19-year-old striker now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he recovers from the setback. “It could be a couple of months,” Liverpool U21 coach Rob Page told the Liverpool Echo. “It’s not going to be a quick fix.

“It’s a setback for him, but Dannsy is very positive about everything in life, especially football. If anybody can get through this setback, it’s him without doubt. “He has the full support of the medical team and myself and the staff.

He’ll get through it.” It’s another crushing blow for the young striker, who saw a potential loan move to Sunderland in the latter half of last season fall through due to a back injury.

Danns had regained full fitness during the summer and appeared from the substitutes’ bench in the first team’s League Cup victory against Southampton just four days before picking up his latest knock.

The striker made his senior Liverpool bow in February 2024 and has since netted three goals across ten outings while appearing in every major tournament, including the League Cup final triumph against Chelsea at Wembley last year.

“I think the hunger has always been in my belly, even from when I was younger if a player was starting over me I wouldn’t like it,” Danns said last year as he looks to kick on having made his first-team breakthrough at Liverpool.

“So, to be honest, my big goal is to just progress as far as I can go and keep trying to get better as a player, to keep progressing and trying to score goals and do the best for the team. So, the hunger’s not gone, it’s only just started. That first taste is just unbelievable so you just want to keep getting it again and I’m grateful for everything that is coming.

“This is my boyhood club and I’m just grateful to be in this situation. Like I said, the more chances I get the more chances I want to take.

“But if I don’t get them chances I just want to keep working hard and there’s top-class players ahead of you [so] there’s no fuss about whether you’re in or you’re not, you’re just grateful when you’re in and around it, so the chances that I get, I’ll work as hard as I can and try to take them.”
