Liverpool remain keen on landing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace but do not agree with their £40million valuation given he is available for nothing come next summer. They also want to avoid a lengthy saga should they pursue the centre-half.

The Eagles defender has established himself as an England regular and is one of the leading lights at Selhurst Park, captaining them on the FA Cup only months ago. However Guehi has no desire to sign a new deal in south London and could leave for free in 12 months.

It would represent a huge loss for Palace, who turned down the chance to land £65m from Newcastle when they chased Guehi last summer. If Liverpool are to move for the defender then it will revolve solely around the price being quoted.

The Reds have already spent £200m this summer but are keen on making additions to their defence. Guehi has a lot of positives going for him but those on Merseyside have little interest in negotiations that drag on for weeks, reports the BBC.

As it stands Liverpool believe Palace’s asking price of £40m is too high given his situation and the prospect of signing him for free later down the line.
