Fulham midfielder Harison Reed plucked what can be considered the Premier League goal of the season so far in the dying embers of the Londoners’ 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Elsewhere, the English top flight chiefs have also posted a reason as to why Florian Wirtz’s controversial equaliser was allowed to stand – a decision Jamie Carragher has since disagreed with.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool travelled down to the capital city in pursuit of three points but were left needing a lease of life when Fulham‘s Harry Wilson opened the scoring. Wirtz impressed as he scored the equaliser before Gody Gakpo seemingly scored the winner.
Gakpo whipped off his shirt and swung it round his head at the expense of a yellow card – but Reed, scoring his first goal since April 2023, had other ideas as he lashed his strike into the top right corner. The Southampton academy graduate’s last-gasp goal means that Fulham are now positioned in 11th, six points off fourth-placed Liverpool.

The 30-year-old, who had replaced Sasa Lukic at the heart of Marco Silva’s midfield area in the 90th minute, picked up the ball in the 97th minute. Those inside Craven Cottage believed it was too far out for him to even think of letting off a shot, but he did just that to produce a howitzer for the ages.
Taking the one touch after being passed the ball, Reed tee’d himself up perfectly and was under no pressure as he geared up to take his shot. As seen in the footage below, his right-footed strike from outside the box swerved in and out before leaving the seasoned Alisson Becker unable to get close.
Saving Fulham’s skin in the encounter’s dying stages, very few expected Reed – who has racked up just north of 200 appearances for the London outfit – to hit the ball so sweetly, but that’s all he had in mind when he received the ball from Brazilian winger Kevin from more than 20 yards out.
In what was a brilliant afternoon of football in the west of the capital, Reeds produced a truly incredible climax as Fulham ensured to pick up a share of the spoils at the death.
Since moving from Southampton to Fulham in the summer of 2020 after a productive loan spell in west London between the respective Augusts of 2019 and 2020, Reed has now been renowned for his goalscoring prowess: the Worthing-born engine room partroller has notched just three goals.
In that time, he’s provided a total of 13 assists which proves he’s able to make the difference in the final third – but his latest strike highlights his ability to flip a match on its head, even if he will never produce a strike so inch-perfect ever again. It’ll be one written in Fulham’s history books, that’s for sure.

Reed’s beauty aside for a moment, there were concerns over whether Wirtz‘s equaliser in the 57th minute was rightfully awarded or not. Liverpool’s No.7 found the back of the Fulham net before seeing the assistant’s flag raised. Found by Conor Bradley, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen talisman confidently swept home – but referee Craig Pawson initially chalked it off as he was believed to be in an offside position.
