Liverpool appear set to miss out on signing Nico Schlotterbeck for now, though the situation may not be completely closed.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund have reached a full agreement on a new contract for the defender that would keep him at the club until 2031.
The proposed deal would make the Germany international the club’s top earner and includes a release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2027. While Liverpool FC and Real Madrid are currently not in the race, that clause could leave the door open for a future move.
Schlotterbeck has been highly impressive during his time at Dortmund and could have been a strong addition to Liverpool’s defence. The Reds had been linked with him by several outlets, with reports from Bild previously suggesting he was reluctant to extend his stay.
A move would have offered Liverpool a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, while also providing cover if Ibrahima Konaté were to depart amid uncertainty over his contract.
Dortmund, however, have done well to secure his future despite strong interest, with even Madrid now out of contention
