Gary Neville has warned that Liverpool’s title charge would be severely dented if they were to lose Virgil van Dijk to injury.
The Reds extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points with a 6-3 thrashing of Tottenham on Sunday.
Neville, speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, hailed Liverpool as “clearly the best team” in the Premier League, but emphasised the importance of keeping Van Dijk fit.
“Van Dijk is like Rodri for Liverpool, he holds it all together. Keeping him fit is absolutely crucial,” Neville said.
The former Manchester United defender acknowledged that injuries to key players like Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah would be a significant blow to Liverpool’s title hopes.
However, he believes that the Reds are currently in a strong position and are “by far the best team in the league.”
