Alexander Isak Set for Anfield Visit – But Could He Be Wearing Liverpool Red Next Season?

Alexander Isak will take to the Anfield pitch on Wednesday night in Newcastle United colors, but could he be lining up for Liverpool when the two sides meet next season?
The Swedish striker has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this term, with his impressive tally of 19 goals placing him joint-second in the Golden Boot race alongside Erling Haaland, trailing only Mohamed Salah.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been strongly linked with the prolific 25-year-old in recent weeks (The Mirror), and fresh reports suggest the Reds may have received a potential boost in their pursuit of the Newcastle star.
Newcastle Already Eyeing Isak’s Successor
According to CaughtOffside on Tuesday morning, Newcastle have already identified their preferred replacement for Isak should they be forced to sell him to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Magpies are reportedly targeting Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, having previously shown interest in the Frenchman during his time at Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle are believed to value Isak at a staggering £150m, a fee that would put him out of reach for most clubs, except for a select few with significant financial power.
Could Financial Pressure Force Newcastle to Sell?
While Newcastle’s pursuit of Ekitike doesn’t necessarily confirm Isak’s departure, the speculation is hard to ignore, particularly given the club’s PSR situation.
Liverpool splashing £150m on a single player seems unlikely, especially when their record signing remains Darwin Núñez at £85m (including add-ons). Ironically, if the Reds were to secure Isak’s signature, Núñez could be the one to make way.
However, if Newcastle are left with no alternative but to sell—especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League—Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, might be able to negotiate a lower fee for the former Real Sociedad star. Isak has even earned praise from Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, further fueling the speculation.
A Player in Form, A Club in Need
With Isak aiming to score at Anfield for the third consecutive visit and boasting seven league goals since January, it’s clear why Liverpool are so eager to bring him in.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are unlikely to finalize a move for Ekitike without offloading a high-value asset first—and right now, no one at St James’ Park is more valuable than their number 14. Liverpool’s decision-makers will undoubtedly be watching closely.
