Jurgen Klopp has reportedly been described as a “dream” managerial target in a move that could seriously threaten his legendary status at Liverpool.

The German has been away from the dugout since leaving Anfield, where he forged an extraordinary legacy. During his iconic spell with the Reds, Klopp delivered both the Premier League and Champions League titles before stepping down at the end of the 2024/25 season. In January 2025, the 58-year-old took up a role with the Red Bull Group as their head of global football.
Despite that, speculation about a return to management continues to grow. Real Madrid are said to be monitoring Klopp’s situation should they decide to part ways with current boss Xabi Alonso. His name has also surfaced following Enzo Maresca’s exit from Chelsea.
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has even labelled Klopp his “dream” appointment for the Blues. Speaking to Paddy Power, Cole admitted it sounded far-fetched, given Klopp’s deep ties to Liverpool, but insisted such bold thinking is necessary for clubs chasing trophies. He suggested that with Chelsea’s resources, approaching elite managers should always be an option rather than relying solely on developing the next big coaching prospect.
Any move to Stamford Bridge would almost certainly anger Liverpool supporters, given the intense rivalry between the two clubs across the Premier League and Champions League. Having already conquered English football, Klopp would represent a huge statement signing if Chelsea could tempt him back into management.
However, The Telegraph reports that Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a high-profile “star” manager, effectively ruling Klopp out. Instead, the club are believed to be progressing towards appointing Liam Rosenior, currently in charge at Strasbourg. Rosenior, a former Hull City player who also managed the club, joined Strasbourg in July 2024.
