Liverpool fans have had their say on summer signing Federico Chiesa after his return from injury during the 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
On Wednesday night, some of the top sides in the Premier League clashed to determine who will progress to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
Despite looking comfortable for most of the match, in the end Liverpool had to dig down in order to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
And, after he made his first appearance for the club in three months, Liverpool fans have taken to social media to make their feelings towards summer signing Chiesa known.
The Italian forward came on as a substitute at the start of the second half, replacing defender Trent Alexander-Arnold who has also recently returned from an injury.
Although he only played 45 minutes in the match, it was more than enough for Liverpool fans on social media to get excited over the future of the 27-year-old’s career at Anfield.
Reacting to Chiesa’s performance in the match, one fan wrote: “If we can keep Chiesa fit, we are winning every competition we are involved in.”
Another agreed, writing: “Chiesa’s quality is so obvious it’s crazy man.”
While one noted: “Bright little cameo from Federico Chiesa here. Probably deserves a goal. Just had two shots cleared off the line.”
And another Liverpool fan noted: “Chiesa is some player if we can keep him fit, so unlucky not to have a goal here.”
Despite coming close to scoring on multiple occasions on Wednesday, taking three shots, with one on target, Chiesa will have to wait longer before scoring his first goal for Liverpool.

Instead, it was Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott who found the back of the net for the visitors, with Cameron Archer scoring a consolation goal for Southampton.
After securing the win on Wednesday night, Liverpool will have to wait until after Thursday’s London clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United before finding out who they will face in the next round.
The Carabao Cup semi-final draw will take place immediately after Thursday’s match, with Arsenal and Newcastle United also awaiting their opponents after winning their matches on Wednesday.
