Liverpool ‘identify’ two players who could replace Darwin Nunez including £70m star

Liverpool are being linked with two players on the first day of the January transfer window. The Reds are now able to strengthen their squad with new signings and rumours are already starting to swirl about the players that could move to Anfield.

Now that the transfer window is open, Liverpool have the opportunity to sign new players to add to Arne Slot’s squad for the second half of the season. It remains to be seen if the Reds will conduct any business, but there have also been rumours that some members of the squad could leave Anfield, too.

One player who has been tentatively linked with a move away from Liverpool is Darwin Nunez. The Uruguay international is midway through the third season of a six-year contract he signed with the Reds back in 2022, but has scored just four goals in 24 appearances so far this term.

According to TEAMtalk, the Liverpool have ‘identified’ two players that they would look to target in the event that Nunez leaves the club. The report claims that Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram are being monitored by the Reds.

The report claims that, even though Liverpool are admirers of Isak following his form for the Magpies, it’s hinted they are put off by the St James’ Park club’s valuation. A separate report in The Telegraph claimed that the Sweden international is valued at around £150million.

It has been reported that Liverpool also have an interest in Thuram, who has scored 13 goals for Inter this season. Reports have also suggested that Thuram has an €85million (£70.5million) release clause in his contract.

Liverpool have not been shy in the past when it comes to strengthening their forward line in January. Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo both joined the Reds in previous winter windows, but it remains to be seen if the Anfield hierarchy will have any plans to strengthen their squad this month once again.
