Liverpool’s relentless injury woes this season have now spread to players currently out on loan.
Two members of Arne Slot’s squad, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley, have already been ruled out for the rest of the campaign, while Wataru Endo and new arrival Jeremy Jacquet remain doubtful to feature again before the 2025/26 season ends.
On Friday night, Reds supporters were dealt another crushing setback, as one of the club’s loan players saw his season abruptly brought to a heartbreaking halt.
Jaros ruled out after devastating knee injury
Ajax confirmed on their official website that Vitezslav Jaros, on loan from Liverpool, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury during training. Medical checks revealed the damage requires surgery, forcing the Czech goalkeeper into a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Eredivisie side also shared a message of support on social media, writing: “We’re with you, Vítězslav”, alongside a heart emoji.
A cruel setback at the worst time
Although Ajax have endured a difficult campaign — sitting fourth in the league, well adrift of leaders PSV Eindhoven, and already out of Europe — Jaros had been enjoying consistent playing time before his injury, making this blow even harder to take.
The timing is particularly devastating, as the 24-year-old now risks missing out on a potential World Cup appearance if Czechia qualify. They face the Republic of Ireland in a playoff next month, and Jaros has been a regular in recent national team squads.
Jaros has openly spoken about his ambition to eventually succeed Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, this injury could complicate that pathway, especially with Giorgi Mamardashvili also ahead of him in the pecking order and highly-rated youngster Armin Pecsi nearing a senior promotion.
