Liverpool News: Salah’s Former Teammate Slams Jamie Carragher, References Ronaldo and Messi

Written by Savior Savior

A former teammate of Mohamed Salah has launched a scathing attack on Jamie Carragher, calling the ex-Liverpool defender a “disgrace” and referencing high-profile football stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Jose Mourinho in the process.

The controversy stems from Salah’s recent public frustration following Liverpool’s clash with Leeds on Saturday. The Egyptian forward, who was left out of the starting lineup for the third game in a row, expressed that he feels “thrown under the bus” by the club. He also revealed that his relationship with manager Arne Slot has deteriorated.

Salah, Liverpool’s third-highest scorer with 250 goals, hinted at uncertainty about his immediate future, noting he will say goodbye to fans during the upcoming Brighton match before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Carragher Responds

During a Monday Night Football broadcast, Carragher didn’t hold back.

“I thought it was a disgrace,” Carragher said, referring to Salah’s post-match comments. “Some have described it as an emotional outburst, but I don’t see it that way. Whenever Salah stops in a mixed zone — something he’s done four times in eight years — it seems choreographed to benefit him and his agent.”

Carragher also brought up Salah’s earlier spell at Chelsea, calling it “failed,” and reminded viewers that Salah wasn’t a star before joining Liverpool. He also questioned Salah’s achievements with the Egypt national team, emphasizing the importance of teammates, managers, and fan support.

Ahmed Elmohamady Fires Back

Salah’s former Egypt teammate, Ahmed Elmohamady, who made 197 Premier League appearances, didn’t hold back in his response on social media.

“Right Jamie, you’re a disgrace,” Elmohamady wrote on X. “Salah rebuilt his career through dedication, humility, and world-class performances. He didn’t fail at Chelsea — he simply wasn’t given the chance. He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then arrived at Liverpool and became a Premier League legend and Egypt’s greatest-ever player.”

Elmohamady, who played alongside Salah 33 times for Egypt, added:
“Salah has carried Egypt for years. He qualified the national team for the World Cup twice after a long absence. He has earned every bit of his success.”

The former Aston Villa and Hull defender also referenced an incident between Carragher and Cristiano Ronaldo in August 2022, where Ronaldo reportedly ignored Carragher ahead of a Manchester United vs Liverpool match.

No wonder Ronaldo snubbed you,” Elmohamady said. “No wonder Messi publicly criticised you. No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even among the top 1,000 Premier League defenders.”

Messi and Mourinho’s Past Criticisms of Carragher

Carragher has previously faced criticism from football’s biggest names. Lionel Messi once reportedly called him “a donkey” via Instagram DM. Back in 2015, Jose Mourinho also criticized Carragher early in his punditry career, questioning his authority to comment on winning the Premier League despite never having lifted the trophy himself.

The ongoing tension between Salah, Carragher, and Liverpool continues to dominate headlines, raising questions about the Egyptian forward’s future at Anfield.
