Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister have echoed each other’s sentiments, calling for an improvement in their team’s defensive performance despite a resounding 6-3 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.
Salah, who scored a brace and provided two assists in the match, expressed his concerns about conceding three goals.
He said: “We worked quite good upfront but defensively we need to improve as a team. Conceding three goals is quite hard.”
Mac Allister, who also spoke to the media after the match, revealed that the players had discussions about their defensive performance in the dressing room.
“We spoke about it in the dressing room, we are not happy with the fact we conceded three goals, that’s very clear,” he said.
Despite the defensive concerns, Liverpool’s attacking prowess was on full display, with Salah becoming the first player in Premier League history to score 10 goals and provide 10 assists before Christmas.
The win also marked Liverpool’s first away victory against a big six rival since 2023.
Mac Allister acknowledged that conceding three goals was not ideal but emphasized the importance of getting the three points.
“We are happy with the result, there are many things to improve but we’re happy to get the three points,” he said.
Liverpool’s defensive struggles have been evident in recent games, with the team conceding nine goals in their last five matches.
However, with their attacking firepower and determination to improve, the Reds remain a formidable force in the Premier League.
