Mohamed Salah’s daughter may have final say on Liverpool forward’s future

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is reportedly ‘desperate’ to extend his time at Anfield with the Egyptian’s contract with the Reds set to expire next summer.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is reportedly ‘desperate’ to ink a new deal with the Reds.

The Egyptian, who has started the season on fire for the Reds this term, is out of contract next summer and is yet to have been offered a new deal to extend his stay at Anfield. Following Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United, a game which saw Salah score and register two assists, the Reds forward told Sky Sports he was entering his last season with the club.

Honestly, I had a good summer,” Salah told Sky Sports. “I had a long time to stay with myself, try to think positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it, I don’t want to think about it but I feel free to play football, we will see next year.

He was then pushed by clarify his words by former teammate Daniel Sturridge, prompting Salah to add: “To be fair, I was coming to the game and I said: ‘It could be my last time [playing at Old Trafford].’ The club has not talked to me yet so I will play my last season and see at the end of the season.

And while those comments seem to suggest Salah is open to leaving Liverpool on a free at the end of the season, it has been reported the Egyptian sees his future on Merseyside. The Liverpool ECHO report Salah is desperate to stay at Anfield, just a year after Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad attempted to lure him to the middle east in a deal that would have cost $197m (£150m).

Liverpool rejected the summer 2023 offer due to not having time to replace Salah, who is said to see his future with the Reds. While the Egyptian will be 33 entering the 2025/26 season, he still looks to be at the top of his game.

The ECHO also report Salah’s family are well settled on Merseyside, with sources claiming Salah is “speaking about his daughter being from Liverpool. She is one of the city’s people in his eyes.

Given his start to the season, which has seen Salah score in all three of Liverpool’s opening Premier League games, it would seem unthinkable to see the Egyptian depart Anfield in May at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite not strengthening massively in the transfer market, Liverpool look set to compete with Manchester City and Arsenal this season for the title, with Salah likely to play a leading role. And the 32-year-old is not the only contract concern for the Reds right now.

Alongside Salah, both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract next summer, which is an issue Liverpool will hope they can resolve sooner rather than later.

Liverpool.com says: “Liverpool need to resolve the futures of Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold sooner rather than later. If they don’t, they risk it becoming an even bigger subplot as the season goes on, something which could adversely effect Slot’s debut campaign.”
