Liverpool progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday night but young defender Jarell Quansah struggled in the game.
Quansah, who broke through under Jurgen Klopp last season, has struggled to replicate his form under new manager Arne Slot.
Fans took to social media to express their frustration, with many calling for Quansah to improve his game.
“Endo is a better CB than Quansah and Gomez,” tweeted V, while Rejoice Chinaza added: “Quansah is championship level, not top-level championship, all those relegation clubs in championship suits him well.”
Others were more scathing in their criticism, with Laurie asking: “How has Quansah gone from looking like a £60m defender to looking like Rhys Williams in the space of a few months?”
However, not all fans were quick to write Quansah off. AB tweeted: “Jarell Quansah will come good, even though it’s frustrating to see him drop off after having a stellar breakthrough season, but he will learn and become a better player for it.”
But perhaps the most brutal assessment came from David, who joked: “Bro needs a phone call from Klopp to get his head screwed on right.”
