Arne Slot masterminded Liverpool to a near-faultless performance after they beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Even though the new Liverpool boss has just entered the building, he is already becoming a firm fan favourite because his side have made a 100% start to the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Paul Scholes lauded Jurgen Klopp’s replacement and how he has made a ‘fantastic start’ in his new role. The Manchester United legend pointed out the type of character Slot is and the fact that he ‘doesn’t get emotional’ on the touchline.
You could say that Klopp was the opposite because he was full of blood and thunder, as his football also dictated that. But during these early stages under Slot, the Reds are far more controlled, they take fewer risks and are much more calmer on the ball.
Under Klopp, there was a bit more flair on the ball and individual players would thrive a lot more, no more so than Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
The England international would ping passes around for fun and even be dubbed the Kevin de Bruyne of fullbacks. But Scholes noticed Slot going ‘mad’ every time he kept giving the ball away and how he prefers risk-free passing, as he told Premier League Productions (01/09/24 at 6:20 pm).
Either way, the former midfielder, who watched Manchester United get outclassed by Liverpool, loved what he saw from the latest Dutchman to enter the Premier League stage.Tent Alexander-Arnold’s passing“What I like about this manager is that he doesn’t get emotional,” said Scholes. “He doesn’t get tied up in a game.
He’s not running down the line celebrating. He is nice and relaxed about that. He seems stern at times, which you have to be.“We saw many times when Trent gave the ball away a couple of times, he was going mad, so there is obviously that sternness that’s needed.
He looks like a real leader and he is going to have to be. That’s why they have employed him because of what he has done in Holland.“I just like the way he goes about his business. He is really cool. He’s really happy with his team, at this moment in time.
I know there will be different tests. He is saying ‘wait until you get to Christmas time, it’s going to be difficult’. He looks like he has the charisma to do it.
He has made a fantastic start.”Perfect start for Arne SlotLiverpool fans were backing themselves to finish in the Champions League places this season, but not challenge for the title.
Many thought Slot needed time to settle in and perhaps make a few mistakes before fans got to see what he was really about.
Liverpool showed calmness in the summer transfer window and they didn’t panic like some of their rivals, with only two new faces added. But that calm nature is translating itself on the pitch because this has been a pretty impressive start so far.
