Liverpool have reportedly received a significant lift in the transfer market, with claims that Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven would be willing to consider a switch to Anfield.

Since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023, Van de Ven has quickly become a favourite among supporters and a key figure in the team. The Dutch international played an important role in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph last May, when Brennan Johnson’s first-half strike secured victory over Manchester United in Bilbao. Liverpool had previously monitored Van de Ven during his spell in Germany but chose not to pursue a deal at the time.
Van de Ven weighing up his Spurs future
Now, though, the reigning Premier League champions could renew their interest. Reports suggest Van de Ven has grown unsettled at Tottenham and is reassessing his future at the club. The 24-year-old is said to be open to a move after a confrontation with fans during Spurs’ midweek 3–2 defeat at Bournemouth.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool are actively searching for a new centre-back after failing to land Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in the summer. The Reds were close to signing Guehi on deadline day in September, but the transfer collapsed late on when Palace were unable to secure a replacement.
Liverpool remain keen on Guehi, despite competition from Arsenal and Manchester City. Overseas interest is also strong, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Inter all tracking the 25-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season and eligible to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club this month.
Van de Ven seen as Van Dijk’s heir
At Anfield, Van de Ven is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk. Although Van Dijk signed a new deal last summer, he has 18 months remaining on his contract and, at 34, is approaching the latter stages of his career.
Liverpool are not alone in admiring Van de Ven, with Real Madrid also believed to be closely monitoring the Tottenham centre-back.
