Rayan Cherki Chooses Manchester City Over Liverpool Amid Transfer Battle

Rayan Cherki has reportedly made his decision amid interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has opted to join City, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Cherki, who scored 12 goals in 44 appearances for Lyon last season, has attracted attention with his standout performances in Ligue 1. Both City and Liverpool were keen to secure his services, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot even ending his holiday early to meet the player.
However, Cherki has chosen a move to the Etihad, with a deal said to run until 2030. The transfer fee is expected to fall between £29 million and £34 million. Plettenberg reports that personal terms were quickly agreed, and the player’s camp is hopeful for a swift finalization.
Having come through Lyon’s academy and spent his entire career at the club, Cherki says he’s ready for the next step.
“I’m prepared for any system,” he told L’Équipe. “I work daily to grow physically and mentally. My focus is on choosing the best environment to continue developing as a person and player.”
He added that his time at Lyon fulfilled his personal goals and that he remained loyal during tough periods, giving his all for the club.
Cherki is expected to be one of several summer reinforcements for Pep Guardiola’s side, with City also close to sealing a £46.3 million deal for AC Milan and Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
