Liverpool are in open and ongoing talks with the representatives of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold over new deals as all three major stars have entered the final year of their contracts at Anfield.
There has been a lot of discussion around the trio due to the situation they currently find themselves in with Alexander-Arnold being linked heavily to Real Madrid, while others are adamant that this will be Salah’s last season with Liverpool as Saudi Arabia prepare a move.
Despite the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season, the trio are open to staying on Merseyside for longer and according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, dialogue with the representatives of those three players remains open and ongoing as everyone works towards striking a deal.
Liverpool have made a very positive start to the 2024/25 campaign as Arne Slot’s men sit top of the Premier League with six wins from seven and have also earned victories in the Champions League and EFL Cup.
The trio may wait a little longer to see how the Reds’ season develops before deciding their futures but it is business the Premier League club will not want to drag on for too long.
Trent Alexander-Arnold should be the priority for LiverpoolAlthough all three are very important to Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold should be prioritised by the Merseyside club given his unique talent and age.
Both Van Dijk and Salah are on the wrong side of thirty and are only likely to be offered short-term deals, while the England international is the future of the Reds and should their Dutch captain leave, the armband is likely to pass onto the right-back.
There is a reason a club like Real Madrid are interested in the 25-year-old and Liverpool should do everything to keep him over the coming months.
