After so many years of real stability, it has been a funny old summer at Liverpool. The Reds became well known as one of the best run clubs around during Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield.
So astute in the transfer market and with owners who had a clear and cohesive plan about how Liverpool should be managed, things were rosy on Merseyside.
That isn’t to say that they still are not. Arne Slot looks like a smart replacement for Klopp so far and FSG seem to have hired well in other areas of the club as well.
However, with just nine days left in the transfer market, Liverpool are yet to add to their first-team squad. Furthermore, their handling of another, big, internal matter is causing shock around the football world.
Insiders shocked over Mohamed Salah situationAlthough supporters are starting to grow increasingly frustrated, Liverpool will not panic during the last days of the transfer window.
There have been claims that Liverpool are days away from signing Giorgi Mamardashvili before sending him back to Valencia on-loan. Whether Slot is given anymore immediate additions to his squad remains to be seen.
But if not, then nobody behind the scenes at Anfield will be too worried. While that may be the case pertaining to transfers, though, there should be some concern over the three big contracts that are set to end in 2025.
In a report on Wednesday morning, The Athletic focus in on Salah’s situation specifically, claiming that there are yet to be any discussions over a contract renewal for the Egyptian between Richard Hughes and Ramy Abass, Salah’s agent.
Although an extension is not categorically ruled out, it is claimed that the Liverpool legend is ‘open minded’ about the future and is in ‘no rush to commit himself.
From a wider perspective, there is said to be ‘widespread surprise’ that the Reds have left it so late to begin any kind of talks with Salah, as well as his two illustrious teammates.
Football people are shocked. No surprise to see Mohamed Salah enter final yearIf football insiders are surprised by FSG waiting to begin negotiations with Salah, then they haven’t been paying all that close attention.
Back in 2022, the Egyptian signed the biggest contract in the club’s history through until 2025. It had always felt as though it would be his last at the club.
Although Salah has underlined his importance and quality again and again since then, he will also be 33 when the deal ends.It makes sense in a way for Liverpool to wait and see what state the player is in by then before committing to another bumper contract.
In our opinion, Salah has proven that he is well worth the Reds putting down another massive contribution to keep him at the club. But there is also some good sense in waiting. Hopefully we’ll get an answer either way at some point soon
