A journalist who covers Newcastle United has dropped a huge update on Alexander Isak amid interest from Liverpool.

Liverpool remain in the market for new players, having already added Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez to their Premier League title-winning squad.

But Arne Slot is also set to trim his squad, with Jarell Quansah expected to complete a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

Forwards Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have also been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer.

If Liverpool sanction the sale of either Nunez or Jota, then Slot would likely dip into the market for a new No.9, with Isak’s name mooted.

But Newcastle are reluctant to sell their prized asset and would command a fee in excess of £150 million.

Liverpool, however, have the necessary funds to afford Isak despite splashing over £100 million to acquire Wirtz.

Chronicle Live journalist Lee Ryder has shed new light on the star player’s situation at Newcastle.

Ryder claims Eddie Howe could take the lead on contract talks with Isak ahead of the player returning to the club for pre-season in July, with key decision makers Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell set to leave St. James’ Park.

Per the report, Howe has been in contact with the Swede, and there have been ‘quiet talks’ behind the scenes.

“We understand that Howe has been in contact with Isak and is relaxed over his situation – and there has been quiet talks behind the scenes,” he wrote. “But that is no surprise given Howe is a great man manager who keeps in constant touch with his squad and offers assurance frequently.”

Newcastle don’t have to sell Isak and there are no fears internally that the forward will ‘need settling down’, the report adds.

The 25-year-old isn’t expected to force a move, with the national media claiming he would sign a new deal worth £200,000-per-week at Newcastle.

But Ryder claims ‘Newcastle have not stood that up just yet’.

Isak has established himself as one of the leading forwards in the Premier League following his incredible goal-scoring exploits.

Liverpool have been told they can afford Alexander Isak as the transfer saga has taken a fresh twist amid intense speculation.

Liverpool have already recruited following last season’s Premier League triumph, signing Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

Wirtz cost a club-record £116 million, while Frimpong and Kerkez commanded fees of £29.5 million and £40 million respectively.

The club remain in the market for new players ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Isak‘s name continues to be heavily linked with a move to Anfield, with the Reds set to part ways with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.

If Arne Slot allows Nunez and Jota to leave Anfield, then a No.9 will be on his radar, with Isak believed to be high on his transfer wish-list.

A deal could be brokered as Liverpool have the financial capabilities to afford Isak, who has been slapped with an eye-watering £150 million price tag.

That’s according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who explained how Liverpool can afford to sign the 25-year-old and questioned whether Newcastle United would sell their main man.

“In terms of, could they afford Isak? Yes,” he told Football Insider.

“I know they’ve done a deal for [Florian] Wirtz and [Jeremie] Frimpong, but if [Jarell] Quansah goes the other way, and you’ve got Trent Alexander Arnold off the books, and they’ve managed to get an unbelievable fee to let him go early.

“So all those little things then kind of come into the mix and they didn’t spend anything last summer at all, they had net spend figure of something like £0.1m, so Isak is affordable for Liverpool, ultimately.

“The question mark is, are Newcastle likely to sell? Probably not.”

On Liverpool striking a deal with Newcastle for Isak, Plumley added: “That’s going to be a hard bargaining conversation and attached to that, that means the fee’s going to go up and it’ll be more of a case of what’s Liverpool’s ceiling on what they’re prepared to pay for that player, because Newcastle will stretch that out for sure.

“I think affordability, yes, the question mark for me would be, what’s the fee and the negotiation and how much Liverpool wants that player.”

The Swedish international has enjoyed an ultra-prolific spell in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in the summer of 2022.

He has scored an impressive 54 goals in 86 league matches, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in England’s top flight.
