Sabalenka blows Emma Raducanu away as Brit’s prize money emerges

Aryna Sabalenka is currently at the forefront of the WTA prize money rankings, leading Emma Raducanu by more than £8 million as the season draws to a close. As of 13 October, the world number one has accumulated a total of £9.2 million, while Raducanu finds herself in 33rd place with approximately £1.1 million.

Sabalenka’s lead over second-place Iga Swiatek, who has earned £7 million, exceeds £2 million. Additionally, there is a significant gap between her and Coco Gauff, who is in third place with £5.4 million. Amanda Anisimova holds a distant fourth position with £4.6 million, followed by a group of four players whose earnings range from £3 million to £4 million: Jasmine Paolini (£3.54 million), Mirraa Andreeva (£3.46 million), Jessica Pegula (£3.14 million), and Madison Keys (£3.04 million).

Raducanu is the sole British player to surpass the £1 million mark, with Sonay Kartal closely trailing at nearly £850,000 in 51st place. The 22-year-old has had a significantly improved season, facing fewer injury challenges; however, her earnings still pale in comparison to those of Sabalenka—who had to exert considerable effort to defeat her at Wimbledon earlier this year—and the other leading players in terms of prize money.

Katie Boulter is the only other British player within the top 100, currently ranked 70th with just under £700,000. This marks a reversal from last year, when Boulter was the leading Brit at 45th with just over £900,000, while Raducanu was positioned at 88th, just above Harriet Dart, after both earned nearly half a million pounds.

Dart is presently ranked 129th this year, with winnings of approximately £300,000. Olivia Nicholls, ranked 114th with nearly £370,000, and Jodie Burrage, in 120th place with just over £350,000, are the two British players positioned between Dart and Boulter thus far this year.

Returning to the pinnacle of the rankings, Sabalenka has already surpassed the £7.3 million she earned last year. She is also on track to achieve the highest earnings in a single season ever.

Serena Williams currently holds that record from her remarkable performance in 2013. Nevertheless, the £9.244 million threshold is well within reach for Sabalenka, who has already accumulated £9.19 million.

It is anticipated that she will accomplish this feat during the WTA Finals next month. Sabalenka, Swiatek, Gauff, Anisimova, Pegula, and Keys have all secured their spots, and they will be joined by two of the following: Andreeva, Paolini, and Elena Rybakina.
