Steven Gerrard is in the running to return to management, it has been claimed.
The 44-year-old has been without a club since January when he departed Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ettifaq.
But according to the Telegraph, Gerrard could be set for a return to Ibrox, where his managerial career began back in 2018.
The Liverpool and England icon joined Rangers seven years ago and went on to guide them to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.
The Telegraph claim Gerrard is among a long list of candidates being considered for the job, with Rangers seeking a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement, who was sacked in February.
Barry Ferguson has been in temporary charge at Ibrox, while the club searches for a permanent successor to Clement.
Ranger’s list of candidates is said to run into double figures, with the likes of former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, ex-Luton Town manager Rob Edwards and recently dismissed Southampton boss Russell Martin also being considered.
O’Neil enjoyed an impressive stint with Bournemouth and a spell at Wolves before losing his job at Molineux earlier this season.
Edwards impressed at Luton, helping them claim Premier League promotion two years ago, while Martin has managed at MK Dons, Swansea and the Saints.
Gerrard’s managerial stock has plummeted since leaving Rangers after unsuccessful stints at Aston Villa and Al Ettifaq.
Gerrard joined Villa in November 2021, months after ending Celtic’s nine-year reign of dominance in the Scottish Premiership.
After a promising first season, Villa’s form plummeted and the former England star was dismissed in October 2022.
Gerrard then moved to the Saudi Pro League in 2023 but left 18 months later with his side 12th in the table and just five points adrift of the relegation zone.
