Arsenal striker Kai Havertz has been hammered for missing an“absolute sitter” in the frst-half against Wolves in the Premier League by Tim Sherwood.
The Gunners endured a frustrating first half against Wolves, with the score ending 0-0 despite Havertz having a few chances to break the deadlock.
Arsenal were reduced to 10 men after Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the 43rd minute, making matters worse.
The German had two opportunities from similar situations. Both chances came from crosses down the left flank, and Havertz missed two identical headers.
The first drifted wide, despite the away fans thinking the ball had gone in. For the second, he managed to hit the target, but his header went straight at the goalkeeper.
Sherwood commented on the second chance on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, saying (3:27 pm):
“Great chance Kai Havertz, he should score, it’s an absolute sitter.
Ball gets played out from Declan Rice to Trossard, this time he don’t chop back in, hits a first-time cross with his left foot. It’s in behind, it’s the middle of the goal, six yards out and he heads it straight at the goalkeeper’s feet and it goes away to safety.
“Still 0-0 but what a sitter, you can’t miss chances like that.”
Arsenal continue to feel frustration with Kai Havertz Mikel Arteta’s side have been plagued by injuries after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus were sidelined.
The Arsenal faithful have called for a player to come in light of Jesus’ injury, as Havertz remains the only striker option. The club have been linked with the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko, but with recent updates, fans are convinced the club won’t be signing a forward this month.
The German has had decent output this season, despite the pressure on the club to sign a striker. He’s scored eight goals in 19 league appearances, with 18 goal contributions in all competitions.
However, when performances like the one against Wolves occur, the club has no one to look to in order to replace him. Against Wolves, the only forwards they had on the bench was Raheem Sterling and youngster Nathan Butler-Oydeji.
The club have made certain moves in this window as Arteta’s side have been heavily linked to a move for midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but this has placed questions on the team’s priorities this window.
It remains to be seen whether a forward comes in, but it would be negligent if no signing is made at all during this transfer window.
