Tottenham transfer update: Harry Kane targets Alan Shearer’s record as Spurs plot a ‘sensational’ return for their former talisman

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a plan to bring back Harry Kane next summer, with the club confident of convincing the England captain to return to North London.

Kane netted 280 goals and provided 63 assists in 435 appearances for Spurs between 2009 and 2023 before sealing a move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

Since joining the Bundesliga giants, the 32-year-old has maintained an exceptional scoring record, registering 103 goals and 29 assists in 106 games, helping Bayern secure the league title last season.

Kane’s form this campaign has been equally impressive, with 18 goals in 10 appearances for Bayern, alongside three goals for England since the start of the season.

The striker remains under contract at the Allianz Arena until June 2027, but speculation continues to grow over a possible move next summer, with Barcelona and Manchester United also linked with interest.

Tottenham plotting 2026 move to re-sign Kane

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are planning a “blockbuster” bid to re-sign their former star.

When questioned recently about his future, Kane told The Mirror:
“In terms of staying there longer, I could definitely see that. I haven’t had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise, I’d be open to having an honest discussion. It depends on how the next year goes and what we achieve together.

“Right now, we’re in a fantastic place and I’m not thinking about anything else. As for the Premier League, I’m not sure. When I first left for Bayern, I was certain I’d come back one day. Now, after a couple of years, that’s gone down a bit—but I’d never rule it out. I’ve learned that timing and opportunity often align in unexpected ways. For now, I’m fully focused on Bayern.”

Kane reportedly has a release clause in his contract that decreases annually, meaning a move in 2026 could cost around £56 million.

Kane still chasing Shearer’s Premier League record

With 213 Premier League goals to his name, Kane remains second on the all-time scorers list behind Alan Shearer’s 260. Given his prolific scoring rate, surpassing the record within the next few seasons is feasible—but time is no longer on his side.

A return to the Premier League next summer could be key to achieving that milestone, particularly if he adds more silverware with Bayern and mounts a strong Champions League campaign this season.

Manchester United are believed to be Tottenham’s main rivals in the pursuit of Kane, though their big-money signing of Benjamin Šeško last summer may limit their interest. The Red Devils would also need to secure Champions League qualification for the 2026–27 season to stand a realistic chance of attracting the striker, who remains determined to lift the Premier League trophy before retiring.
